Field Poll: Obama Behind in California

An article by Carla Marinucci appearing on the front page of today's San Francisco Chronicle reports on a Field Poll points to a 12-point lead by Clinton over Obama.

Two poll findings of interest.
  1. Obama trails Clinton by 19 points among Asian Americans, and
  2. The Bay Area is the most competitive of all the regions in the state, with Obama trailing by seven points.
We got a lot of work to do.

Only 2 weeks to go! We need to get on the phones and talk to our friends and family members. Wear your Obama buttons and stickers out. And let's educate ourselves about why Senator Obama is the best candidate for Asian American communities.

FYI... In SF, volunteers just opened a new office at 1874 Market (where Laguna and Guerrero meet.) There will be an opening party tomorrow--Wed, 1/23--around 6pm! Come on down!

Hi -

While AsianWeek has not yet made an endorsement in the presidential race, I'd like to note that the Jan. 22 San Francisco Chronicle (either political reporter Carla Marinucci or an editor) made the mistake of saying that Sen. Clinton is ahead by 19 points among California Asian Americans in the Field Poll.

Clinton maybe ahead among some combination of Asian American and "OTHER" voters.

I've always had a problem with using for AsianWeek the Field Poll's Asian American voter polling numbers which co-mingle "other" voters with Asian American voters. The Field Poll disclosed that Asians/others was a "small sample base" of 102 voters.

The Field Poll report is at http://www.field.com/fieldpollonline/subscribers/Rls2260.pdf.

Readers should take note of this Chronicle error.

Hello -

This is correction to my previous posting.

Back on Jan. 24 I posted that APA Nevadans for Barack Obama web blog picked up a recent San Francisco Chronicle story citing Clinton’s 19-point January 22 Field Poll lead among Asian Americans over their candidate in delegate rich California in advance of tsunami Tuesday – Feb. 5. Political reporter Carla Marinucci’s story however made the mistake of taking the co-mingled tally of “Asian” AND “other” voters, which Field warned was a “small sample base” of 38 likely voters…
